Hannon Library Celebrates Shakespeare’s Birthday and National Poetry Month

In honor of National Poetry Month, Poem in Your Pocket Day, and Shakespeare’s Birthday, which is celebrated on April 23, Hannon Library is currently presenting two displays that celebrate poetry and Shakespeare. The display on the first floor, closest to the reference desk, was curated from the library’s Reference collection and includes reference materials like The Definitive Shakespeare Companion: Overviews, Documents and Analysis and Who’s Who in 20th Century Poetry. 

The first-floor display near the library’s Humanitarians for Justice, Nonviolence, and Peace art collection showcases new and notable books of poetry from Hannon Library’s collections as well as books that highlight Shakespeare’s sonnets. Featuring titles written by the 22nd Poet Laureate of the United States, Tracy K. Smith, including Wade in the Water and Life on Mars, this exhibit curates books from the library’s collections that are available to borrow.

While Shakespeare’s exact birthdate is unknown, come celebrate his life by delving into his Sonnets with titles like Ideas of Order: A Close Reading of Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Why Lyrics Last.
