
Join us for the Sixth Annual Ashland Literary Arts Festival on Saturday, October 28, from 10 am to 4 pm.
This year’s festival explores independent story and thought throughout the entire Cascadia region, celebrating not only books, but all forms of expression: literature, poetry, journalism, art, lyrics, comics, film, and documentary.
The event will include a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy—writing workshops, author readings, film viewings, storytelling and crafts for children, and even a Wonder Woman costume contest!

Festival events are free and open to the public. Free parking will be available (print-friendly parking map). Attendees can also enjoy concessions from Sultan’s Delight food truck and Sweet Cream hand-crafted ice cream.
Regular weekend library services will be available during normal business hours. Students can use LIB 114 for quiet computing space during the event. Study rooms will only be available on a first-come, first-served basis that day (no reservations), and all conference rooms will be in use by festival events.

Early Closure Announcement
Events & Programs, Library NewsThis is a reminder to all of our students and patrons that Hannon Library will be hosting the Sixth Annual Ashland Literary Arts Festival this Saturday, October 28. (more about ALAF)
To prepare for this event, the library will be closing early on Friday, October 27. Schedule for building closure follows:
2 pm – Third floor closed to patrons. Setup work will begin on this floor.
3 pm – Second floor closed to patrons.
4 pm – All building closed to patrons.
If you need materials from a closed floor between 2 pm and 4 pm, visit the Access Services desk for assistance.
The library will be open to non-festival goers on October 28, although some library services may be unavailable. Regular library operations will resume Sunday, October 29. We apologize for any inconvenience to our patrons, but we hope you’ll take the opportunity to explore the many activities offered at the Ashland Literary Arts Festival.

The Lotus Rising Project—an organization which works comprehensively to support, inform, an reach out to LGBTQ+ people across Southern Oregon—has donated a wonderful collection of books and materials to Hannon Library.
You can see preview our Lotus Rising collection by visiting this book display on the third floor of the library. You can even browse the collection on our website at hanlib.sou.edu/lotusrising.
And don’t miss the Rogue Valley Pride parade on Saturday, October 14 in downtown Ashland, where you can see and wave to members of the SOU community as they walk in the parade!

Publishing Your Poetry in Today’s Literary Landscape
Events & ProgramsWhether you are trying to publish a few poems or an entire book, this one-hour presentation by Amy Miller will provide you with the tips, resources, and tough-love advice you need. Don’t miss this free event on October 16, 4-5 pm in the library’s Meese Room (LIB 305).
With so many ways to get published these days—print, online, journals, blogs, traditional and self-publishing—it’s easy to get overwhelmed when deciding where to send your poetry. Amy Miller, a longtime book editor, can help guide your way. Miller’s poetry has appeared in more than 100 literary journals, numerous anthologies, and 11 chapbooks. She won the Cultural Center of Cape Cod National Poetry Competition, as well as the Jack Grapes Poetry Prize and Whiskey Island Award. Miller currently works as the publications project manager for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
As part of the Friends of Hannon Library Speaker Series, this event is event is free and open to the public.
