Event: Information, Disinformation, and Misinformation

In today’s digital age, distinguishing between reliable and misleading information is more challenging than ever. With the rise of social media, AI-generated content, and evolving technology, researchers, students, and the general public must develop critical skills to assess the trustworthiness of information sources.

Join us for an insightful panel discussion on February 13, 2025, at 5:30 PM, where experts in information science and technology will explore the complexities of information credibility, the dangers of misinformation and disinformation, and strategies for identifying trustworthy sources.

Meet the Panelists

  • Melissa Anderson – Campus Engagement and Research Services Librarian at Southern Oregon University (SOU). Melissa specializes in information literacy and helps students navigate the evolving landscape of research and digital sources.
  • Stacey Wedlake – Research Scientist in the Technology and Social Change Group at the University of Washington Information School. Stacey’s work focuses on the intersection of technology, society, and the ways information impacts public discourse.
  • Elizabeth Ramsey – Associate Professor and Librarian at Boise State University. Elizabeth’s expertise lies in media literacy and the role of libraries in fostering critical thinking skills.

Moderating this essential conversation will be Tony Davis, a computational linguist with a keen interest in the ways language and technology influence the spread of misinformation.

Why Attend?

This event will offer attendees:

  • Practical tools for evaluating the credibility of online sources.
  • A deeper understanding of how misinformation and disinformation spread.
  • Insight into the role of libraries and research institutions in combatting false information.

In an era where access to information is limitless, knowing how to discern fact from fiction is a crucial skill. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from leading experts and join the conversation on fostering a more informed and critically engaged society.
