April 9-15 is National Library Week!

Take a moment to show the libraries in your life how much you care about them. And remember, sometimes the simplest ways are the best ways to give your support.

Here are some things you can do this week to show Hannon Library your appreciation:

  • Check out some of the great books in our collections
  • Thank a librarian or staff member for their work
  • Complete the Library User Survey sent to your SOU email
  • Stop by the Spring Book Sale this week and fuel your love for books
  • Post to our Facebook or Twitter page to tell us what you like about Hannon Library
  • Attend an event, like this upcoming talk on Shakespeare by Geoff Ridden
  • Become a Friends of Hannon Library member
  • Donate to help fund our services and collections
  • Spend some time in the library and just enjoy the space

Is Shakespeare sacred?

Geoff Ridden, an academic and performer, will explore this question with his upcoming talk, Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way: Playing with Shakespeare.

April 13, 2017
4-5 pm
Meese Room, Hannon Library
SOU Campus

Geoff Ridden is the Artist Director of the Classic Readings Theatre Company, which specializes in presenting readings of adaptations of Shakespeare plays. He will share intriguing facts about these adaptations, illustrating his talk with examples from the various productions he’s been involved with. Ridden will tackle questions of why Shakespeare’s works have been adapted, and with what results.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of Hannon Library as part of their 2016-17 Speaker Series. The presentation is free and open to all. Get free meter parking for this event by visiting any campus parking meter and using this code: FHL0413.

Finals week has descended upon us, so it’s time to push up our sleeves and dig in for that last stretch of effort. But hang in there, students. Spring Break will come before too long. Meanwhile, Hannon Library is here to help with some extra building hours:

Library Hours: March 19-25

Sunday, 11 AM-24 hours*
Monday, Open 24 hours*
Tuesday, Open 24 hours*
Wednesday, Closed at 2 AM*
Thursday, 8 AM-2AM*
Friday, 8 AM-5 PM
*closed at midnight to non-students

Some come to the library, settle in for the long haul, and show those nasty finals who’s boss. And we know how difficult it is to burn the midnight hour, so on 24-hour nights we’re serving up free coffee, tea, and snacks starting at midnight. LaDuke is also known for her engagement with social issues and cultural awareness. Her recent book, Bountiful Harvest: From Land to Table from White Cloud Press, takes inspiration from her personal experience with agriculture workers. In 2010, LaDuke was invited to spend time with the men and women who harvest the orchard, vineyards, and farms in Southern Oregon. She listened to their stories and was inspired to create vibrant paintings that capture the spirit of the fields and orchards.
