24-Hours at the Library
Sunday through Tuesday of finals week, the library is open 24-hours to all students. While you’re here, enjoy some free refreshments, courtesy of the Friends of Hannon Library. Coffee, hot tea, and snacks will be available at midnight in the Rotunda during each of the 24-hour nights.

New Costume Display
Displays & ExhibitsThe library has a new costume display, on loan from the Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University theatre program.
Designed by Brandon McCowan
These two costumes are from the 2018 production of The Rover by Aphra Behn, directed by Dawn Monique Williams. Both costumes were designed by Brandon McCowan and were worn by Angela Hernandez as Angelica and Ian Fyfield as Don Pedro.
The display can be viewed on the second floor, Periodicals Department, through the summer.

20 Is Our New Favorite Number
Library NewsHannon Library makes #20
Hannon Library has, once again, made the ranks! In April 2018 the EDsmart organization released its listing of the top 51 Most Incredible College Libraries, with Hannon Library coming in at #20.
This list puts Southern Oregon University’s library in the same spotlight as acclaimed U.S. universities and colleges like Johns Hopkins, Caltech, and Yale. The ranking has even garnered Hannon Library some special attention from local media with this article by KTVL Channel 10 News.

This isn’t the first complimentary ranking to land Hannon’s way. In 2015, Hannon Library was listed among the 50 Most Amazing College Libraries in the nation by CollegeRank.net. Librarians and library staff at Hannon are proud of the newest kudos and appreciative of the recognition.

65th Anniversary — This spring we celebrated our 65th anniversary as a Federal Depository Library with a day full of guest presentations, art, displays, and, of course, cake.
A Fond Farewell — Hannon Library is saying farewell to a dear colleague and friend, Bill Herman, who retires this term. Bill has served as the library’s Reserves & Video Collections Coordinator for many years, and we’ll remember him fondly.
Upcoming Event — Miriam Reed presents “Susan B. Anthony Says a Word,” a solo play focused on a young Anthony’s pursuit of Woman Suffrage.

Susan B. Anthony Says A Word
Events & ProgramsHannon Library presents Susan B. Anthony Says a Word, a 45-minute solo play written and performed by Miriam Reed and directed by Terri McMahon (Oregon Shakespeare Festival). Costumes by Sylvia Moss and Krista Johnson.

This one-woman performance by Miriam Reed Productions explores the life of a young Susan B. Anthony as she discovers why women must have the vote and so begins her lifework for Woman Suffrage.
The event is free and open to the public.
About Miriam Reed
Miriam Reed proudly earned her doctorate in Comparative Literature (UCLA 1980) and discovered how little she knew. Specifically, she had no idea who Elizabeth Cady Stanton was. Galvanized by her own ignorance, Miriam determined to save other women from such ignominy and launched her one-woman performances to educate and entertain, calling her solo plays “Women’s History 101“ and presenting such powerhouse women as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Louisa May Alcott, Margaret Sanger, later looking at the women in the life of Oscar Wilde and examining differing views on abortion. With her savings, she wrote Margaret Sanger: Her Life in Her Words (Barricade Books, 2003) and was then asked to write and narrate “Clarence James Gamble: An Extraordinary Life” (DVD 2007). Later work: Japan 1908: The Adventure of Fourteen-Year-Old Clarence James Gamble (2013) and China 1908: Sidney D. Gamble & Brother Clarence Discover China (2017). Miriam lives with her Border Collie, Marnie, in Ashland, Oregon.
