As we mark our 50th Anniversary, the Friends of Hannon Library are proud to present our 2024-2025 Speaker Series, highlighting the vital role libraries play as public resources and preservers of knowledge.
This year’s series will focus on the evolving mission of libraries in serving the public good, with a special emphasis on the challenges they face in today’s rapidly changing world.
Challenges for Today’s Libraries
📅 October 3, 2024
🕠 5:30 PM
📍 Location: Meese Room 305 (updated from LIB 206)
Join us for an engaging panel discussion featuring esteemed speakers:
- Wendy Cornelisen, State Librarian of Oregon
- Kari May, Director of Jackson County Library Services
- Jennifer Cox, Dean of Library and Learning Resources at Chemeketa Community College
Moderated by Carrie Forbes, Dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies and the University Library at Southern Oregon University, this discussion will address pressing issues affecting both librarians and library patrons in public and academic libraries.
Nationally and locally, libraries are facing daunting challenges, including rising costs, funding cuts, outdated facilities, social issues, and the politicization of access to library materials. Our panelists will share their insights on how we can respond to these challenges and advocate for the continued importance of libraries in our communities.
For those unable to attend in person, the panel will also be available to view via Zoom at https://sou.zoom.us/j/81216330953.
